Match report

Arrived at Oakley today with title mathematically a possibility, but realistically probably Brickhill’s to lose.
Told the boys, we wanted to see a performance that we knew they were capable of. In fairness looked at them in warm up and they looked sharp.
Game started, in atrocious conditions and our early play was good, couple of attacks and corner but again undone more by our own errors. Their player picked up ball just outside our area, and toe poked the ball past advancing Harris, 1-0 Oakley.
Game continued to be played in midfield area generally, Oakley started to boss the game but defence/ midfield seemed to be holding them at bay. Then another goal conceded, and I must say harsh but fairly, we should have stopped. Player picked up on their left flank and before he was closed down unleashed a great shot, that was unstoppable, 2-0 Oakley. The player if closed down would never have got his shot in!
Heads started to go down at this stage and Oakley soon got their third.
Half- Time 3-0 Oakley
Half time
Told boys, we needed to impose our game on Oakley, have the confidence, they were doing to us what we normally do to other teams. Defensively we were sitting deep, our midfield were taking their line from our defence and thus Tomas virtually left up front with no link / supply as sitting to deep , from him .
2nd Half
After team talk thought response would come, and unfortunately it didn’t. Chances continued to come for Oakley, but good defending and some exceptional saves kept us as we were. The game progressed into the last quarter and like last week, we started to impose ourselves. No goals came, but our play was better, we put them under a lot more pressure and they actually looked vulnerable at times. It was a positive to take from the game, as when we pressed them, they did look far from comfortable. Game finished 3-0 Oakley.
Boys; Awful conditions today, but we gifted the game to Oakley today. As a team we need to impose ourselves / play onto other teams, especially teams that are at our level. We gave them too much space, sat too far back as a team and basically left our attackers exposed on their own. It is something that myself/des can work on with yourselves though. Boys, I probably say this too much but I make no apologies for repeating; I and Des are extremely proud of your progress individually and as a team. You have all come on in your development, and continue develop well in all areas. We have a successful calendar year and confidently believe that if you keep applying yourselves their will be further good years – Well-Done!

What can I say- I have had the pleasure of playing your position (in goal) and sometimes it’s a thankless task, all players want to be the new Messi. Well your performance /handling /saves today in the appalling weather were truly great. Keepers nightmare wet ball, but thought you coped brilliantly, and to think you only started goalkeeping in Feb this year. Your continued development is something you should be very proud of, well done.
Lastly, but not least to parents /grandparents thank you for your support, couldn’t wish for a more supportive group.
To you players and parents can I on behalf of myself/Des take this opportunity to wish you and your families an extremely ‘HAPPY CHRISTMAS and the very best wishes for the NEW YEAR!’
