Normality returns, football finally can be played! Thank you to all for your understanding in the last few weeks, frustrating I think for everyone. Today’s game was against MK City Leopards and semi final place awaited the winners. Mk done really well in first half of season, runners up in division lower than ourselves and looking at results were going to be good test for us. We started brightly today considering lack of match practice, knocking the ball around confidently, with purpose. Our first goal came after about five minutes, Yannis and Jari exchanging passes down the left and then the latter linked passes with Tomas, who stroke home neatly.1-0 tigers! Chances continued to be created, Tomas, Samuel, Tyler all having efforts that went close to adding to our tally. Josh picked the ball up about half way in opposition half and had a good shot which just went wide, just needed that second goal that our play deserved. The second came, and must say was a lovely goal. Mk broke and had a shot on goal. Harris saved the shot confidently, but had the presence of mind to see Jari had taken wide position in acres of space. Quick throw to Jari from Harris, started a quick counter attack. The ball was worked diagonally through the middle between Jari and Samuel; Jari beat the last defender, crossed for Tyler, who volleyed sweetly home. 2-0 Tigers! H-T 2-0 Told the boys to keep the tempo of the game and generally keep doing what they had done in first, faultless performance to be fair. Second half started as first finished, to be honest Mk had chances but good defending /goalkeeping from Yannis, Josh, Jeremy, James and Harris kept us comfortable. Tigers third come by way of a penalty and courtesy of Tomas and his quick movement catching defender out. Up stepped Josh and duly slotted home the penalty, 3-0 Tigers. The fourth come and like the second was pleasing .A truly well worked goal, virtually involving the whole team, back to front! Through a series of interchanging passes, players moving off the ball, creating space for teammates to run into, the ball was moved forward, eventually ending up with Jeremy slotting home. Our fifth Tomas’s second came just before the final whistle and capped a very good display. 5-0 Tigers! Man of the Match- Jeremy His performance grew today as the game went developed. A very good display, both defensively and offensively, capping it with a well taken goal- well done! Well-done today boys, great display considering lack of football. What was most pleasing was the ownership the boys took of the game. You teach/coach the boys things i.e. movement with/without ball but it actually comes down to them, to apply it. Today they did, especially for the second and fourth goal! A performance that was near to early season form – well done boys!! Thank you to all parents, grandparents as always, support/ help is very much appreciated by Des and myself.
