Match report

We kicked off the new season against Tattenhoe Pumas. We recently played them in a friendly ending victorious by the odd goal. This in mind it was going to prove a good test.
After starting slowly and surviving a couple of attempts we started to impose ourselves. The game was played largely in the middle with chances going to both sides. Tattenhoe scored first after about 10 minutes through a slide rule pass, through the middle and slotting past Harris. Our response was okay but not to our usual standard. The play was disjointed with good balls put into channels behind the defence and then players in good advance positions, but poor decision making in front of goal or not having enough conviction was to be our downfall. That said Tattenhoe to be fair were more clinical and made us pay adding a second before half time.
Second half continued in the same vein really, players individually doing some nice runs but in final third it was just not happening. They added their third and a fourth in last minute.
Full/time 4-0 loss
In fairness Tattenhoe deserved their victory but think the score line flattered them a little.
Message to the boys;  Today's game and all games will be competitive and a challenge for you as individuals and as a team. Des and myself are confident that as a team and individually you are capable of better performances , as you proved in numerous games against equally / superior teams over the previous seasons .
As said in post-match talk - Well done to two of our new players - Christian and Declan! Both of you put in very good performances, use this as a standard to aim for and better each week - good start!! Also like to mention Josh K and Harris who put in good performance also - score lines don't always do players in certain positions justice .
Star player - Jari Quinn
Well-done Jari - an impressive performance today especially considering score line. Your energy, covering the pitch, breaking up play in front of defence and trying to set play going offensively was an example for all. Refreshingly, liked your decision making with the ball! Some great through balls behind defence when being pressed and carried the ball well when option was there also- again standard is set - your aim is to maintain this level and further.  Lastly as always thank you to the parents - your support /help is always appreciated by myself/Des. Thank you to Nick - for being linesman (thankless task but appreciated as frees myself/ des to concentrate on coaching the boys)
