Match report

Today's opponents were Stony Stratford. In fairness both evenly matched teams. A league table never lies - but stony beat league winners Oakley last week 2-1 and we have just been on wrong end of results by the odd goal.  We started well again today. The boys knocked the ball around well. Early on couple of chances for Vinny, Colin, Declan. We took lead after about 12 minutes, series of passes in midfield led to Samuel feeding jack in left hand side and from about 18 yards diagonally half volleyed passed their keeper, who got hand on it but couldn't push it round! 1-0 tigers  Great start was nearly undone as straight from kick off virtually they attacked, got round the back and put a teasing cross across face of goal, with the goal gaping their striker fired wide - luckily.  We continued to play some attractive / incisive football and created numerous scoring chances but went in at half - time 1-0 at break.  Half - time  we tinkered with our marking set up for corners as felt this was area where they might threaten. Also reminded boys at back not to get caught out of position / travel with ball but make sure enough cover. Otherwise performance was great - really pleased with how they had played. Second half carried in much the same way really - pleasingly. Chances came from Colin, Josh k, Samuel but still not the second goal. At the back, balls started to get through which was of concern but Harris alert and cleared up. We got our second about midway. Jari nodded a stony goal kick into Vinny’s path - one bounce and vinny volleyed over their keeper into far corner - great goal!  They continued to press and again got behind us and ball across totally missed by three players, and striker tapped home. Game on, as started to get stretched at both ends. Another scare saw Harris coming to the rescue with a great save to his right, and this was then followed with them actually scoring. Correctly though was ruled as when winger was put through and pulled ball back, ball had crossed dead ball line by a metre.  Unfortunately confusion followed as thought player was given offside and flag went up for ball going off!  As it happened, it didn't affect result as Colin was put through on goal and slotted passed the oncoming keeper when pressurised by tracking defender. Great finish as, Colin could have gone down under challenge but stayed on his feet instead. Game finished 3-1 tigers  Message to the boys - great performance today and some lovely linkages of play, which were quick, instinctive and clever, well done!  Star player  Jack P - great performance today, some nice touches, composure on ball was good and also a well taken goal. A standard you set that think you are more than capable of producing consistently - well done.  Lastly thank you to parents as always and to Phil for refereeing and graham/ Panell for doing the line.
